One Night That Changes Everything
Have you ever had a diary or notebook full of your secrets before? So secretive that you would go crazy if someone suddenly got ahold of it? Eliza can relate when she found out that her ex boyfriend stole her purple notebook. The purple notebook is one of the most important thing in Eliza's life. She's had it since she was little and has been writing in it ever since. Eliza guards the notebook with her life because its full of all the dares she would love to accomplish but is to afraid to. Unfortunately, now that Eliza’s ex boyfriend has the notebook, he and his friends blackmailed Eliza to do all her dares in the book in one night and if she refused to do so, the boys would post the notebook online. Eliza knew she was in deep trouble right when Cooper and his friends assigned the first task, but she wasnt aware that this was the one night that changes everything.
I think the title of the book really supports the actual novel. As you read more and more you can notice how the dares start effecting Eliza and start to change her. Unwillingly, Eliza set out all night doing horrific tasks and trying to get her notebook back. Even though she thought it couldnt get any worse, it did. Eliza saw her phone light up with a text message and she knew it had to be from Cooper and his friends. When she read the task her heart stopped. This might be the worst task ever, even after all the other ones she has already experienced. The text message ordered her to tell Eliza’s sister, Kate about when Eliza kissed Kate’s boyfriend at the time!
Eliza tried to come up with a good explanation to why she kissed her sister’s boyfriend a long time ago, but nothing seemed good enough. Finally Eliza gathered the courage to tell Kate. Her and Kate arrived at the late night coffee joint, where Cooper and his friends instructed Eliza to go. There, one of Cooper’s friends was sitting in a corner table trying to witness and see if Eliza would actually do the dare. When the words came out of Eliza’s mouth explaining what happened, Eliza started to realize how terrible the task actually was. As she was telling Kate, Eliza could see her sister fading away with anger, and Eliza was terrified at the fact of harming their relationship.
Even though Eliza felt good to have that guilt off her back, she never intended to hurt her sister. The boys gave her other tasks, but while doing those she kept her Kate on her mind. Eliza was worried that Kate would never talk to her again. Almost the whole night Eliza was convinced that these dares were effecting her in a negative way, but later found herself wrong. She realized that she had overcome all these fears that she has had for a long time in just one night! She felt so strong and proud of herself for accomplishing something that could have taken years to do.
Thinking of how many tasks Eliza completed was insane. By the end of the night she had asked a complete stranger in a club to dance, sung karaoke, and told her sister the cold truth about the indecent with Kate’s boyfriend. The title relates to the book so well because it very briefly explains how everything can completely change in one night. I think the author chose her title because she wanted to give a taste to the readers. Reading this title, you can tell that the book has a lot of events in store. Eliza had been through so ups and downs through the long night. She knew that night changed everything
